Resting in God, No Matter What You Are Facing
Life is full of trials. Some days, the storm rages so fiercely that we feel like we are drowning in the waves of uncertainty and fear. But as followers of Christ, we have a promise that stands firm: we can rest in God, no matter what we are facing.
The Invitation to Rest
Jesus gives us a clear and loving invitation in Matthew 11:28:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
This isn’t a temporary rest, nor is it a rest dependent on our circumstances. This is a soul-deep, unshakable rest that comes from trusting in who God is rather than what we see in the natural.
Trusting in His Sovereignty
One of the greatest struggles we face is wanting to control our circumstances. When we don’t understand why something is happening, it’s easy to become anxious, worried, and restless. But God calls us to trust Him.
Isaiah 26:3 reminds us:
"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you."
Perfect peace comes not from having everything figured out but from keeping our minds on God. His plans are higher, His ways are greater, and He is always working for our good—even when we don’t see it.
Worship in the Storm
One of the most powerful ways to rest in God is to worship Him in the midst of the storm. When Paul and Silas were thrown into prison in Acts 16, they didn’t panic or despair. Instead, they worshiped. And as they praised God, a miraculous breakthrough came—the prison doors flew open!
Worship shifts our focus from the problem to the Problem-Solver. It reminds us of God’s faithfulness and strengthens our faith, even in the hardest times.
Casting Our Cares on Him
God doesn’t ask us to carry our burdens alone. 1 Peter 5:7 tells us:
"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you."
We can lay everything at His feet—our fears, our struggles, our pain—and trust that He is holding us. He is our refuge, our safe place, and our strong tower.
A Decision to Rest
Resting in God is a choice. It’s choosing to trust Him when things don’t make sense. It’s choosing to surrender instead of striving. It’s choosing to believe that He is still good, still sovereign, and still with us.
No matter what you are facing today, take a deep breath and remember:
You are not alone. God is for you. And in Him, you will find rest.
